Family Pleads for Help to Bring Home Son Killed in US Bike Crash
The Kenyan diaspora community is in mourning following the tragic death of Joseph Nyagechi Morema, a 29-year-old Kenyan-American who died in a motorcycle accident in Minnesota, USA, on April 21, 2026.
The tragedy is especially poignant as it strikes a family still reeling from a brutal unsolved double murder that occurred in Nyamira County just three years ago.

Joseph, a certified nursing assistant (CNA) living in Burnsville, Minnesota, was riding his Suzuki motorcycle on Interstate 35E in Eagan around 9:35 p.m. when the crash occurred.
They estimate the total expenses at approximately KSh 839,000 (around USD 6,500), which includes transportation, documentation, and other logistical requirements  However, contributions so far have been limited, leaving the family increasingly anxious as they race against time. In their appeal, they are calling on well-wishers, friends, and the Kenyan diaspora to help ease the burden and ensure Joseph’s final journey leads him back home.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the motorcycle veered into a section of gravel and dirt on the roadside, causing Joseph to be thrown from the bike.

Authorities confirmed he was wearing a helmet at the time, and preliminary findings show no signs that alcohol played a role in the accident.
Known for his love of motorcycles, which he described as his "way of finding peace," Joseph was reportedly on his way to work at a senior living facility when the tragedy struck.
For the Morema family, Joseph’s death has reopened deep wounds. He was the only son of Edward Morema Nyagechi  aged - 63  and Grace Mong’ina Morema 60.

In March 2023, the elderly couple—who split their time between the US and Kenya—were found brutally murdered in their home in Nyamakoroto village, Nyamira County. Their hands and feet were bound, and they had suffered severe injuries in an attack that shocked both the local community and the diaspora. To this day, the family is still seeking justice for their parents' deaths.

"We were still trying to heal and support each other after what happened to our parents. This latest loss has left us devastated." — Caroline, Joseph’s sister.

Well-wishers can contribute via the official fundraiser links circulating within the Kenyan diaspora groups or through direct family contacts to help the Morema family navigate this overwhelming "triple tragedy."
